Sunday 5th August 2001 To begin the day, all the players were split into teams, and Per Dam from CMC, was the first to tee off. Everyone thought he had a strong team with Mick McConnell and Martin Bullard, and they felt quietly confident as they began the game. The next team up was Mike Craft, John Madsen from MN Music, Benny Bach from CMC, and John Wagstaff from NOW Music. Now, not that I’m saying that this team didn’t stand a chance, or that they didn’t have the energy of the other teams, but they did have to have a golf buggy to get them around the course! And finally was the big team, the team who were tipped to take away the cup for a second year running, the reigning champion Steve Pinnell, Terry Uttley, Maj-Britt Bundgaard from CMC, and Sandra Wagstaff. The game lasted four and a half hours, but probably would have been over sooner if Benny had got away with all his cheating! However, once his little plan was discovered, the other teams kept a very close eye on him, so close in fact that they didn’t notice John burying Mike’s ball in the sand – so that’s why it took him 14 shots to get it out of the bunker! Needless to say it was all just a lot of fun, and there certainly was plenty of laughing and shouting going on. After all the excitement of the game the teams retired to the club house and were joined by Lona Jonker from MN Music. The hotel Praestekilde served a magnificent dinner, together with a few glasses of wine, and the scores were added up. Imagine the surprise when the top score was held not by Steve, but in actual fact had been taken by Sandra (and I can assure you no one was more surprised than Sandra!) It does mean that the cup will be returning to home ground once more, but this time it will have a new name on it! The whole day was a great success, it gave the band a chance to unwind after an incredibly hectic schedule of recording and touring over the last 4 months, and it also gave them a chance to catch up with some friends. Now, they have the next 3 weeks to relax and see their families before the hard work starts once more – keep it up guys, you’re doing a great job!
